Death from Above

I decided to base my Raptors on the Assault Marine kit, since I really like their jump packs. So, I took some of my leftover Chaos bits from my First Iron Warriors Squad, and built them to have either bolt pistols and chainswords or a multi-melta.
Since the legs of the Assault Marines look rather short compared to those of the Primaris and the new CSM releases, I made them slightly taller by adding a piece of plasticard to each one and smoothing it out with green stuff. As I was already cutting the legs apart, I decided to add some studs to make them look more brutal. Details of how the paint job was done can be found here.

The hazard stripes were weathered using a sponge dipped in either Abaddon Black or Leadbelcher.

I magnetised the arms of two of the Raptors so that I can switch them out for a Multi Melta.

For the squad leader, I wanted to recreate a pose that I had seen in another kitbash online. This mostly involved cutting the legs at the joints, repositioning them, and then filling the gaps with green stuff.

Retrospective

I definitely should have filled in the gaps of the jump packs. Although I'm happy with the final height of the models, extending the legs was a long and tedious process. This made me lazy, resulting in me not smoothing the green stuff-filled parts properly which now stare at me accusingly.

Camera Settings

For all pictures I used my Nikon D3100 with a Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 lens. I shot at 32 mm with f/11, 1/15 and ISO 200. Regarding the lighting of the pictures, I used two desk lamps and black cardboard as the background.
